Life Aquatic

Darling hubby has been slaving away all evening, moving precious acanthastrea lordhowensis colonies from the 28 gallon reef tank to the recently cycled 65 gallon tank. I'm secretly excited about this because the 65 has looked so barren - just three live rocks, sand, and a few fish have been its only inhabitants. I'm also delighted because I despise the 28 gallon aquarium and look forward to its departure from my living room.

Transferring the livestock from the 28 to the 65 will be slow and suspensful. And once darling hubby has actually moved everything over, he will place and re-place, and rearrange, and shift everything at least a million times. Even when everything's in its place, it's not - location in darling hubby's aquarium is always tenuous. Darling hubby may decide that a coral's location does not suit his desires. Then he will ponder and wonder and question where to put this or that coral.

I am the lucky spectator in the whole affair, getting to admire all his labor. The result is a stunning aquascape replete with unimaginable beauty. I admit that I have serious reservations about this hobby - after all, not all fish, coral, and other animals survive the trip from the reef to the fish store, or from the fish store to the home aquarium. There really is no way for me to reconcile with that, and I simply must accept it, just as one must accept that not all fish and coral survive in the wild. Besides, reefkeeping is darling hubby's passion and I am terribly passionate about him.
